City of Lucas Recycling Update
By Joni Clarke
City of Lucas City Manager
The City of Lucas is unique in so many ways and one of its most important distinctive characteristic is its local government. As the City Manager, it is my privilege and responsibility to implement City Council policies. I have watched this City Council tackle some major endeavors such as ensuring the community has safe drinking water by improving the water infrastructure, providing essential emergency medical services and improving safety by reconstructing bridges and roadways. They have accomplished much and continue to work on these priorities while maintaining one of the lowest property tax rates in Collin County.
This is also a City Council that listens with open minds and without personal agendas. They listen to those citizens that spoke passionately about continuing to have a family owned business, Barnes Waste Disposal Service, serve as the City’s solid waste provider because of their commitment to customer service and they also listened to those residents that advocated for the curbside recycling program to be restored. The Lucas City Council encourages citizens to communicate their views and perspectives on all issues that we face as a community. The goal of the city to provide essential public services that offer a good value to our taxpayers. It can be a daunting task to take diverse opinions and transform them into something that serves the greater good.
You may now sign up to enroll in the City’s curbside recycling program by contacting Republic Services at 469-443-7009. Container delivery begins the first week of April with curbside pickup service scheduled for Friday, April 13.
Barnes Waste Disposal Service provides the following services to Lucas customers:
• Weekly residential refuse collections at curbside or, if qualified (disabled or elderly), house side.
• Collect unbundled brush (cut not greater than 4 feet in length) and bulky items in a volume of (2) cubic yards [6’x3’x3’], no less frequently than twice per month.
• Collect unlimited bundled brush (cut not greater than 4 feet in length) and not heavier than 40 pounds per bundle, and placed curbside for collection.
• At the request of the customer, Barnes will collect 10 cubic yards of brush curbside twice per year per household at no additional cost to the customer.
We also invite all residents to participate in keeping Lucas beautiful by participating in the citywide clean-up event scheduled for Saturday, May 12 from 8:00 am to Noon. We will be offering an opportunity to dispose of electronic waste for a reasonable fee. As a reminder, City Council meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of the month beginning at 7:00 pm at City Hall.
