Willow Springs 8th Grade Basketball Teams Take Down The Huskies
The Huskies from Ereckson Middle School visited the Willow Springs 8th grade boys A, B and C teams and left with their tail between their legs as the Leopards won all three games.
The B-team got off to a fast start by scoring 11 points in the first period to grab the 11-7 lead heading into the second. Building on the success in the first period Willow Springs added to their lead with Luke Fisher scoring 5 points in the period stretching the lead to 24-11 at halftime. Six different Leopards scored for the home team in the third period and Willow Springs took a 39-18 lead into the final period. The Leopards defense kept the Huskies from scoring in the final six minutes while Griffin Peay netted 6 points in the final period and Willow Springs B-team cruised to a 57-18 win. Hot shooting in the first period, highlighted by three pointers from Jax Thompson and Kidus Getenet, allowed Willow Springs A-team to take a commanding 16-3 lead over the Huskies. In the second the Leopards continued to dominate on defense leading to a 24-5 halftime lead. Ereckson showed they wouldn't go down easy putting up 12 points in the third period to close the gap to 28-17 heading into the final period. Willow Springs answered the push from the Huskies in the fourth grabbing back the momentum with the help of two 3-point baskets by Jax Thompson and pulled away from Ereckson for a 45-19 win. The C-team continued the success on the night by building an early lead in the first period 16-9. The Huskies stayed within striking distance all night but Willow Springs had an answer each time they made a run and lead 26-15 at halftime. The lone basket for the Leopards in the third by Trey Pugh was enough to maintain the lead as the defense held Ereckson to 4 points in the period going into the fourth up 28-19. Free throws by Will Branum and Alec Viel were enough in the final period as Willow Springs took the win 31-25 over Ereckson. Top Scorers for the C-team: Alec Viel 10 points, Trey Pugh 7 points, Will Branum 6 points.
