WSMS Visits Pirate Stadium For Tuesday Night Lights

Both of the 7th grade teams (Red and Black) traveled to Pirate stadium to take on the Patriots from Cooper Junior High on October 23rd.

The 7th grade (Red) team watched the Patriots jump out to an early with Cooper returning the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and 7-0 lead over WSMS. The Leopards responded when Grant Harlan found Kaiden Rice open for a 35 yard touchdown pass with James McDonald converting the kick for an 8-7 Leopard lead. WSMS extended their lead to 16-7 when Aarren Marshall caught a 55 yard touchdown pass from Harlan and McDonald converting the extra point try. WSMS added one more score in the first half on a 7 yard run by Harlan making the score 22-7 at half. The Patriots scored early in the third to close the score to 22-14 and again WSMS responded on a 16 yard touchdown run by Harlan to bring the score to 28-14 late in the third quarter. Cooper's offense came alive tying the game 28-28 on two long touchdown runs as they threatened to steal the win. Strong defensive play from the Leopards in the final minutes included an interception by Allan-Sebastian Chervil at the 5 yard line and a forced fumble by Aarren Marshall and fumble recovery by Caden Brantl kept the game tied 28-28 where it would end in a tie.

The 7th (Black) team also fell behind early to Cooper 8-0 but closed the gap when Ridge Barker found Benjamin Muirhead for a 26 yard touchdown pass making the score 8-6. The Patriots extended their lead to 14-6 early in the second half and WSMS responded on a 2 yard touchdown run by Barker with the extra point by Anthony Yerks making the score 14-14. Willow Springs scored what would be the game winner with 1:40 remaining in the fourth quarter on a one yard touchdown run by #7 (kick good by Yerks) for the 22-14 win.
