Defensive Effort Leads To Three Wins For WSMS

   The Willow Springs girls 8th grade basketball teams continued their successful season by overwhelming the visiting Marauders from McMillan Junior High on December 13th at WSMS. 

     The B-team took quick control of the opening game with an efficient full court pressure that allowed them to build a 29-3 first half lead over McMillan. Willow Springs added 10 more points in the third period in route to a 39-11 victory. Top scorers: Emma Smith 14pts, Linnea Maddux 9 points, Taylor Platz 8pts and Elliott Pomeroy 4pts.  

     The A-team mirrored their teammates in the first game by using strong defense and fast break offense to jump out to a 15-2 lead in the first period. Lovejoy kept the pressure on the Marauders in the second and third period increasing their lead to 27-11 headed into the fourth. Any comeback attempt McMillan had was quickly squashed as the Leopards scored seven more points in the period for a 34-16 victory. Top scorers: Chloe Schaffer 11pts, Trista Tippin 9pts, Sammie Basson 8pts and Kendall Dodson 4pts. 

     In the final game the C-team completed the sweep by taking down McMillan 26-16. Lovejoy lead 6-3 after the first period but the Marauders were able to keep the game close headed into halftime 10-6 with Lovejoy leading. The third period saw the teams trade baskets as the score remained close at 16-10 WSMS headed into the final period. The offense from Willow Springs took over the game in the final period netting 10 points to secure the win. Top scorers: Eleanor Koehn 10pts, Emma Ball 6pts, and Bella Levin, Sydney Legg, Rylan McKnight, Ashlyn Martin and Ava Bouldin all with 2 pts.
