Strong Finish Not Enough To Push Lovejoy Past Ursuline

The Lady Leopards took on Ursuline Academy in their final game before the winter break at Lovejoy High School on December 20th. The first quarter ended in a 15-15 tie as both teams looked to gain momentum in a physical and aggressive game. Ursuline seemed to gain control in the second only to have the Lady Leopards claw back to within one 29-28 at half. The visiting Bears held Lovejoy to 8 points in the third period while pouring in 16 points of their own to open up a lead in the game heading into the final period 45-36. Lovejoy found themselves down by as much as 17 points late in the fourth period but continued to battle in the final minutes to close the gap to under 10. Ursuline was able to thwart the comeback and win the game 63-56. After the game head Coach Lance Boxell siad “ I was happy with our effort all the way to the end. It is easy to look at the scoreboard down 15 and give in but we made a run, that will help build our confidence moving forward.” Top scorers for the Lady Leopards: Alexandra Brungardt 15pts, Carsen McFadden 13pts, Grace Bennett 10 pts, Paige Eckard 6pts.

The next home game for the girls varsity team will be January 4th 2:30pm at Lovejoy HS.
