Lovejoy Varsity Wrestlers Battle Local Schools
The Leopards mens wrestled well at times but were only able to win one of the three duals. Lovejoy men defeated Plano East 57-21 while falling to Prosper and Boyd. That brings the overall record for Lovejoy men to 11-8 on the season. Varsity coach Mike Eaton noted they are a young team with "one senior and four juniors so he expects to have a lot of talented wrestlers" in the future as "this group continues to improve." The boys team is led in wins by Freshman Ralph Rucker with 28 wins followed by Senior James Ayers with 23 wins. Coach Eaton had high praise for Ayers, the lone senior on the team, saying "(he) has been an outstanding teammate and great role model for our program and we will miss the leadership and inspiration he provides daily." Men's wrestlers winning two of three matches in the duals include: Senior James Ayers; Junior Johnny Dorlon; Sophomores Alex Vislosky, David Gold, and Joe Ridgeway; and Freshmen Jakob Underwood, Ralph Rucker and Kyle Ross.
Lovejoy women's team dominated their competition winning six of the seven matches against Rockwall, Prosper, and Boyd. The three girls, Lilly Musselman, Katherine Heath, and Alex LeFort, won with an impressive five of the seven wins by pin. Coach Eaton mentioned "the future is bright for the women's team as all five wrestlers are going to be back for at least another year." The team is led by Junior Morgan Elvin who has 25 wins followed by Sophomore Alexandria LeFort with 24 wins, Junior Lilly Musselman with 16 wins, Sophomore Katherine Heath with 15 wins and Freshman Charis Vela with 8 wins.
