YMSL Lovejoy Making an Impact
Young men and their moms teaming together to make a huge impact within their community is exactly what the Lovejoy's Young Men’s Service League (YSML) stands for. This chapter has been making a difference in the Lucas/Fairview and surrounding communities for almost three years now.
YMSL is a non-profit organization where young men throughout their high school years work with their mothers to give their time to surrounding philanthropies. This organization encourages the growth of mother and son relationships and helps build strong character within the young men who participate.
Some of the partnering organizations include St. Jude’s Food Pantry, ACO’s Resale/Food Pantry, Samaritan Inn, Bed Start, and Cornerstone Ranch. This is just a short list of the many philanthropies that these young men have worked within and continue to work with to help change lives. Each of these projects has entailed different skill sets, manual labor and volunteer work, and have all been done with huge hearts.
Each teen participates in monthly meetings to learn more in depth about the leadership qualities they possess and their role within their community. These boys have grown over the years as a family and have developed their character through their acts of generosity and their time.
Some of these meetings include trips to places in the surrounding area and offer life changing experiences. The Collin County McKinney Jail was an experience that the 2018 and 2019 young men will never forget. “It was a major eye opener on how one small decision can change your life forever, I definitely learned a lot touring the facility” says class of 2019 YSML President, Michael DiFiore.
Within the chapter itself there are several different committees and leadership positions that allow the boys to take on a level of responsibility as well as participate in the group. Some of these committees and positions include president, vice-president, secretary, historian, communications committee, leadership committee, etc.
YMSL emphasizes the bond and relationship between a mother and son, and the impact that they can make together in their community.
