Willow Springs 8th Boys Go On The Road Agianst Cain
The Leopards 8th grade team traveled to Rockwall Cain on April 24th taking a 2-1 record into the game. Willow Springs started off the season with wins over Burnett (1-0) and McMillan (2-0) and suffered their first loss against Utley (4-1). Despite tremendous effort from the players Willow Springs was handed their second loss against Cain (2-0).
The Mustangs from Cain wasted no time taking the lead scoring two minutes into the game for the 1-0 advantage. Willow Springs showed no signs of quitting putting together many scoring chances in the half. Goalie Declan Cunningham provided several key saves for the Leopards keeping Cain out of the net the remainder of the period. Even with Willow Springs providing pressure they were unable to find the net leading to a 1-0 score at halftime. The second half was similar to the first with the Mustangs finding the net early in the period to extend their lead to 2-0. Lloyd Blaylock provided strong goalie play in the second half only allowing the one goal despite a barrage of shot attempts from Cain. Willow Springs struggled to connect against the Mustangs defense in the second half resulting in a final score on 2-0. Leopards coach Ian Keeble stated "We were challenged tonight, I have been here (at Lovejoy) six years and this is the first time I remember losing both games in a night (7th and 8th grade.)" After the game Keeble told the players "This night wasn't ours, we lose and we learn. We will work hard this week at practice and get better." The next home game for the 8th grade team will be on May 1st at 6:45p at Willow Springs.
