Willow Springs 7th Boys Battle Rockwall Cain on the Pitch

The 7th grade boys team took a 2-0-1 record into the game against the Mustangs from Cain suffering their first loss of the season 3-1. The Leopards had won their last two games in commanding fashion with a 6-1 win over Utley and 5-1 win over McMillan and will look to get back in the win column in their next game on May 1st at Willow Springs MS 5:30p.

The Mustangs, who were the home team, got on the board first netting the goal less than five minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. Willow Springs answered in the 8th minute when Hunter Reck broke free on a run and was fouled in the penalty box resulting in a free kick. Reck calmly sent the penalty kick in the net for the Leopards to tie the score 1-1. The score remained tied the remainder of the half with Willow Springs goalie Noah Nguyen coming up with several saves to keep the game close.

Matthew Huettner took over in the net for the Leopards in the second half and the Mustangs tested him early and often but Huettner was able to fend off the challenge for most of the period. Eventually the Mustangs broke through with seven minutes remaining for the game winner and added another goal with four minutes left for a final score of 3-1 Cain. Soccer coach Ian Keeble told the team after the game, "We weren't at our best today, but keep your heads up. We will come out this week at practice and get better." When asked about the game Keeble stated "seventh grade is all a learning experience" with this being their first year playing together for the school " and I feel they learned more in this game than the last three games combined."
