Protecting Your Today and Tomorrow
Zane Shepherd is an Allstate Exclusive Agency Owner. He has six insurance and securities licenses and is a CPA. He opened his Allstate office in Lucas in December 2007, one year after opening his first office in Murphy. He said that Allstate approached a group of agents, himself included, with the opportunity to open a location in Lucas. After researching the city, he realized that Lucas was exactly what he was looking for in that it was a smaller community and he would be the only Allstate agent in town. Before becoming an Allstate agent, Shepherd had been in the insurance business for many years. He said that Allstate met his needs in that he could remain in the insurance business and be a small business owner.
Shepherd explains that his agency offers nearly every manner of personal and business insurance possible and they also offer all manner of financial services. Regarding his clients, he said, “We try our best to protect their world and help them achieve their hopes and dreams in retirement.” He adds, “If we are protecting their home and cars, we should be protecting their future too.” He said that life insurance is one of their core services. They also can help you manage your 401Ks from previous jobs.
He knows he has been successful when his clients voice their appreciation and when they recommend him to their family and friends.
He said the most common request they receive from their clients is help with a claim. They often answer questions about polices such as changes needed when purchasing a new vehicle. He said one of the most unusual conversations they have with potential clients is when the customer calls for a quote and they have to tell the caller that their driver’s license has been suspended. He said this type of call occurs more often than he would have imagined.
His favorite aspect of being an Allstate agent is being able to help people put their life back together in their time of need. He recalls Allstate paying hundreds of millions of dollars after the storms in 2016 so that people could get their lives back in order. A customer, who lives less than a mile from the Allstate Lucas office, lost their home to a fire. The family got out, but the house needed to be rebuilt. Shepherd was there for the entire process. He recalls seeing the relief on their face, as he stood with them while their home was still smoldering, and said, “It’s going to be all right.” And, it was. Allstate put the family up in an apartment while their home, which turned into their dream home, was rebuilt.
He also enjoys informing clients that they offer many more services than expected such as retirement planning.
At Allstate, they strive to be their clients’ trusted advisor. Shepherd said, “We will protect them. We help them navigate their choices and build customized coverage at the right price.”
