Softball Season Ends In Round One Of Playoffs
The varsity softball team had a successful season that resulted in a playoff bid continuing a streak of playoff appearances for the team dating back to 2009. The Lady Leopards faced off against the high powered offense from Sulphur Springs and were unable to advance in the playoffs losing the series 2-0.
In game one, Lovejoy took the early lead when Leah Taylor scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Alyssa DiFiore but the Ladycats answered to tie the game 1-1 in the second. Sulphur Springs extended their lead in the third scoring five runs to take the 6-1 lead into the bottom of the third. Lovejoy showed they wouldn't go down without a fight plating three runs in the third with DiFiore notching her second RBI of the game and Harleigh Bettis' double scoring Mackenzie Mitchell and Celeste Soliz to make the score 6-4 Ladycats. That was as close as the Lady Leopards would get as Sulphur Springs added 1 run in the fourth and eight runs in the fifth to take the win 15-4.
The offensive power of Sulphur Springs was on display in game two as the Ladycats scored four runs in the first and never looked in back in route to a 15-1 win over the Lady Leopards. Leah Taylor had one hit in the game and Holly Massey scored the lone run for Lovejoy on a home run in the third inning.
