Lovejoy Students Perform With Special Guests at Jazz Band Concert
On May 7th the Lovejoy Jazz Band welcomed The Texas Instruments Jazz Band and special guest Delfeayo Marsalis to the auditorium at Lovejoy High School for a concert that had everyone bouncing in their seats and that included a dash of New Orleans funk. Marsalis, who is recognized as one of the top trombonists, entertained not only with his musical ability but also with his humor and southern charm.
The Lovejoy Jazz band were encouraged by Marsalis to add some "funk" when playing and even played a piece that he had taught them with only 17 minutes of practice before the show. The performance included pieces by Duke Ellington , J.J. Johnson, Kermit Ruffins to name a few and concluded with The Texas Instruments Jazz Band, The Lovejoy Jazz Band and Delfeayo Marsalis all on stage in what was described as a big, BIG band.
Paul Heuer is the director of bands for Lovejoy and the students performing included: Saxes- Michael O'Brien, Alex Vislosky, Kennison Williams, Jonah Hicks, Joe Ridgeway. Trombones- Luke Prins, Kyle Easley, Landon Snow, Justin Ebrahimi,. Trumpets- Patrick O'Brien, Sam Oates, Joel Reaves, Jake McTee, Austin Marlar, Trey McGee. Guitar- Jack Supan, Piano- Micah Chapman, Piano/Bass- Emma Satterwhite, Drums- Annika Kjellgren, Charls Vela
