Lovejoy Falls In Game One Of Playoffs
After winning the final game of the regular season to earn the last playoff spot in their district, the Leopards faced Texas High School (Texarkana) in the in the first of a three game series. The Tigers grabbed game one 8-2 and the teams will face off again on Friday for game two at Texas High School 7:00p. Game three, if necessary, will be played on Saturday 1:00 at Rockwall.
Texas scored the first runs of the game in the third inning plating three runs with the help of an error and two walks. The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth adding three more runs with walks and an error again contributing to the scoring. Texas added runs in the sixth and seventh making the score 8-0 headed into the bottom of the seventh. The Leopards started a rally in their last at-bat with Luke Howell reaching base on his second single in the game. With Howell on first Mason Marsh notched his second hit launching a two run home run making the score 8-2 Tigers. Luke Finn followed with a hit but Texas High was able to avoid the collapse and secured the 8-2 win. Lovejoy Coach Jason Wilson told the team "We are just fine, stay upbeat and confident. We hit the ball hard and they will start to fall." The Leopards outhit Texas 8-4 on the night and had several potential hits taken away by strong defensive play from the Tigers.
