LISD Hosts Boys Basketball Camp

Lovejoy ISD’s basketball camp was held from June 11 – 14 in the gym at Willow Springs Middle School. Incoming first through third grade boys spent the week working on the fundamentals of basketball. Coaches taught basic form, shooting and dribbling. They also helped campers understand the rules of the game.

“At this age, the kids want to play games. This is the first introduction of basketball for a lot of the players, so we want them to have a really good time while being taught the fundamentals of the game,” explained Kyle Herrema, LHS head basketball coach and assistant athletic director. “On some days, kids might not shoot as well as they would like to. We talk about it during camp and say, ‘There are going to be days where you don’t do as well as you want to. As long as you’re trying your best, then we are happy with that.’ We remind them that there’s tomorrow.”
