Lovejoy ISD’s tennis camp for girls and boys was held at Lovejoy High School from June 11 – 14. Incoming first through twelfth graders spent the week working on many different strokes. “We’re doing rotations where the kids work on forehands, backhands, serves and volleys. They are also doing live ball drills and playing live ball games,” explained Will Davis, Willow Springs Middle School’s head tennis coach. “Today we are working more on actually playing the game of tennis. They are playing out points with balls that are compressed. The balls don’t bounce as high, so the little kids can play out the points.” On the last day of camp, a prize court was filled with Gatorade and a variety of candy. Campers cheered as each tennis player attempted to hit the drinks and candy to win a prize.
