Lone Star Family Dental Creates Confidence and Removes Pain
Dr. Justin McElvain said he always knew he wanted to be in the healthcare field, but it wasn’t until he shadowed a dentist did he realize that a career in dentistry would be the perfect fit for him. He describes himself as extremely detail oriented and said, “I enjoy working with my hands and getting to know my patients over a lifetime.” McElvain completed his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M and said, “I am an Aggie through and through”. He earned his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas in 2014. He continues his clinical studies yearly, as required, and enjoys keeping up with current trends and improved techniques and procedures in the dental field.
After working for both a small and large dentist practice, he bought Lone Star Family Dental (431 E. Stacy Road in Fairview) in August of 2015. This action fulfilled a goal he had established while in dental school. He said, “I like to be able to dictate the flow of treatment for my patients. I want to be authentic and real with my patients. I put my heart and soul into it.”
The top three reasons patients visit Lone Star Family Dental are: 1. Regular check-ups/cleaning 2. Pain relief 3. Cosmetic. During a patient’s first visit, before discussing their dental concerns, McElvain visits with them simply to get to know them. He then gets medical history and discusses their specific needs. Speaking to unusual dental requests, McElvain said recently they have had two similar, yet unrelated cases of children chipping their permanent teeth after falling on concrete. They were able to restore their teeth back to normal.
He knows he has met or exceeded his patients’ expectations in various ways. When he hands a patient a mirror after dental cosmetic work is complete and the patient exudes new found confidence with tears of joy and a big smile. When he personally follows up with a patient after a procedure and they say they are now pain free. When his patients refer him to their loved ones. He said patients have voiced appreciation over the fact that they are treated like family at Lone Star Family Dental. McElvain said, “We genuinely care about each of our patients.”
Unlike some dental practices, at Lone Star Family Dental, McElvain doesn’t refer his patients to other practices for many procedures. He performs wisdom teeth extractions, Invisalign ®, places implants, root canals, dental fillings and is licensed to do oral sedation with nitrous gas. He also offers cosmetic full-mouth cases which includes creating a plan with the patient, outlining their goals and detailing what will take place at each appointment as well as a 3D model to ensure agreement as to what the final outcome will be.
In addition to running his practice, McElvain donates his time and talents to the underserved communities. Once a month he serves at Quest Care Clinic in Dallas with his church. He starts patients on an antibiotic then in two to four weeks he meets with them again to perform an extraction of a troublesome tooth. While working with the patients he has the opportunity to share his faith.
McElvain has lived in Allen, within the Lovejoy community, with his wife Paige and young son since 2015. He met Paige during his first week of dental school while she was enrolled in the dental hygienist program. Paige is one of the two hygienists at Lone Star Family Dental. The McElvain’s have really enjoyed getting to know families in the Lovejoy community and attending Lovejoy sporting events to cheer on their patients. McElvain chose the location of his practice because he is very family oriented and wants to serve the community in which he lives. He said, “We’re setting up shop, we’re not going anywhere for a long time.”
