Lady Leopards Groom Their Cubs at Lovejoy ISD Summer Softball Camp
Thirty-nine girls from Kindergarten through 5th grade signed up for Lovejoy ISD’s Summer Softball Camp and despite the arrival of Texas’ summer scorching heat, highs the week of July 16 between 100 and 106 degrees, it was all about learning, fun, and lots of water --- really, lots and lots of water.
Lovejoy takes it’s Lady Leopards very seriously as well they should. The team has a phenomenal record of achievement having won district championships in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015 and, playing for the State Finals in 2013.
Summer camp for these athletes is all about learning fundamentals like how to take an athletic position, how to execute a turn properly in order to pursue and then catch a fly ball.
Coach Brittany Lee gives each girl high marks for enthusiasm and for being open to coaching. “At their young ages they are eager to learn new skills and develop more and more self-confidence as they progress. We have to be careful to make sure that our coaching is both fun and supportive of their efforts. We want each girl to grow as the result of this camp, and we hope, of their future team sports experiences.”
Judging from the giggles and smiles all around, there’s no chance that these Lady Leopards aren’t already having a great time at Softball Summer Camp.
