Lucas City Council Will Lower Effective Property Tax Rate
At its September 6 meeting, the Lucas City Council unanimously agreed to lower the city’s property tax rate effective with the adoption of its 2018-2019 budget. The tax rate will decrease from .317948 to .303216. City Manager Joni Clarke said, “While many residents have monitored the development of the proposed budget, the only comment offered to the council urged that continuing street improvements be an important part of the next budget.” The “effective tax rate” is a hypothetical property tax rate that would give the city the same amount of revenue it had in the previous fiscal year, according to the Texas Municipal League (TML), the association of Texas’ city councils.
Another issue on the agenda, however, did trigger several comments from Lucas residents in the Kirkland Estates subdivision along Parker Road. Construction along Parker Road is scheduled to begin soon and residents are asking for the creation of a left turn lane during that construction work.
Both the adoption of the 2018-2019 budget and the Kirkland Estates issue will be taken up at the September 20 meeting of the council. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.
