WSMS 7th Boys Dominate Cooper JH
The 7th boys A, B and C teams from Willow Springs traveled to Cooper Junior High on January 28th to take on the Patriots from Wylie ISD.
In the first game the B team jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead over Cooper with the help of a three pointer by Alexander Franklin. In the second period the Leopards were led in scoring by Lorenzo Osteguin (5 pts) and Brendan Cooper (4 pts) as they took a slim lead into halftime 18-16. The third period would be decisive as Willow Springs pulled away scoring 18 points and taking a commanding 36-20 lead. Mark Massey led the offensive in the third period scoring 9 points on three baskets from behind the arc and William Fry added 7 points of his own as the Leopards took control of the game. In the final period Willow Springs worked the clock as they cruised to a 40-26 win over Cooper.
In game two the A team struggled offensively early and fell behind 10-5 after the first period. The offense came alive in the second period, scoring 18 points to claim the lead 23-17 at half. The big surge in the second period included three pointers by Grant Harlan, Aarren Marshall and Ridge Barker. Willow Springs extended their lead to 38-32 in the third period thanks to hot shooting by Marshall (6pts) and Colgin Pettit (5pts.) The Leopards defense only allowed two points in the final period and five different Leopards scored including baskets by Avery Fuller and Joshua Gapp as Willow Springs took the win 47-34.
In the last game the defense of the C team set the tone as they held Cooper scoreless in the first period to take a 8-0 lead with Ben Muirhead, Hunter Hayward, and Anup Ghumman scoring baskets for Willow Springs. In the second period Luke Wright scored 8 of his team high 12 points in the game to extend the lead to 16-5 Leopards. Five different players scored in the third period including Grant Anderson, Cameron Batastini and Cole Hibberd as Willow Springs took a 30-13 lead into the final period. Cooper was unable to mount a comeback with Willow Springs matching them basket for basket in the final period leading to a 35-19 win for the Leopards.
