Heritage Ranch Republican Club Hosts Collin County Sheriff Skinner
The Sheriff, The Wall, Criminal Interdiction Unit and Dogs
At the January Heritage Ranch Republican Club meeting, Collin County Sheriff, Jim Skinner, made an in-depth presentation, which highlighted three important subjects that have had a profound impact on all of us at Heritage Ranch and surrounding counties.
First, was the fact that the debate rages on in Washington regarding the wisdom of building 300 miles of steel barrier across strategic sections of our border with Mexico. In his detailed presentation, Sheriff Skinner gave us many solid reasons why the “WALL” would help to stop the flow of illegal drugs and human trafficking that Mexican cartels and transitional organized crime syndicates are introducing into our country.
Secondly, Sheriff Skinner delivered information about the creation of the North Texas Sheriffs Criminal Interdiction Unit, which has been instrumental in the seizure of over $17 million in narcotics and dangerous drugs; over $1 million in illicit cash; the rescue of 2 missing children, and over 85 felony arrests in just the first 12 months, some of which happened right in our own back yard. This new program instituted by the Collin County Sheriff’s Department was so successful that Sheriff Skinner has been invited to speak at the National Sheriffs Association Mid-Winter Conference in Washington.
Finally, Sheriff Skinner and his deputies treated us to a first-hand demonstration of the Sheriff’s Department use of highly trained interdiction dogs that are able to find hidden illegal drugs and how these great dogs also help the deputies in the capture of dangerous criminals. In an actual demonstration in the HR ballroom, we saw a drug dog locate a hidden bag of drugs and also watched the dogs find and attack a “simulated bad guy” rendering him captured. This was an awesome demonstration!
The Republican Club of Heritage Ranch invites all Collin County residents to attend our future meetings which include a medical speaker (5/13), Candy Noble/Angela Paxton (6/17), Chris Hill/Collin County (7/15) and Fairview New Mayor/EDC (8/19).
