Moms and Sons Explore Together at Lovejoy Elementary
“Happy is the son whose faith in his mother remains unchallenged.” – Louisa May Alcott. Mothers and sons of Lovejoy Elementary School enjoyed the self-paced Mother Son Science Night. The relaxed atmosphere offered many opportunities for mothers and sons to pair up to create and discover as well as allowing sons to explore with their friends, while the mothers enjoyed visiting with their friends.
The Perot Traveling Science Museum was set up in the gym and included hands-on activities such as holding dry ice bubbles in gloved hands, making foldable telescopes, learning about objects in motion and much more.
Additional activities, such as Maker Space (more hands-on fun), photo booth, games, snacks and crafts created an evening full of memory-making moments.
Kasey Havens is the PTA program chairperson and coordinated this well-attended PTA sponsored event.
Regarding why this event was held, Wendy Craft, Principal of LES said, “Every year our PTA holds a Mother/Son event and a Daddy/Daughter event. In the past, we have gone to a hockey game for Mother/Son night, and we decided that we needed a change this year. We brainstormed different ideas, and we thought that this would be something fun that our moms would enjoy doing with their sons. We really wanted something that was interactive between the moms and sons.”
There were approximately 90 moms and 110 sons in attendance.
