Varsity Softball falls to McKinney North 4-7
On Tuesday, March 26, the Varsity Softball team fought a hard battle but fell short to McKinney North 4-7. Head Softball Coach Brittany Lee stated, “While losing is always a disappointment, I was mostly pleased with our performance against McKinney North. We talk a lot in our program about how we measure our success, and it largely is not reliant upon the W-L column; one of the focuses we had coming out of preseason is being able to respond to a home run being hit against us and not letting defensive errors compound onto one another and we did both of those things Tuesday night.”
During the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs scored 1, but the Leopards answered with a team effort by Mackenzie Mitchell and Carlee Schaeffer getting base hits following by Leah Taylor scoring Mitchell on a fly ball. After a scoreless second inning with outstanding pitching by Sydney Provence, the Bulldogs were able to score a run in the third inning, but again, the Leopards responded with Leah Taylor hitting a double that scored Mackenzie Mitchell from first base. During the fifth inning, the Bulldogs scored 5 runs. “Even down 7-2, our athletes never game up against North,” Coach Lee stated. The Leopards came to fight during sixth inning scoring two runs with hits by Leah Taylor, Delaney DiCristofaro. Madeline Robinson also attempted a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error. Despite outstanding efforts by Bailey Bradshaw, who struck two hitters out in the seventh inning for the Leopards, the team was unable to score runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Leopards are 2-1 in district play and have scored 22 runs as a team. “As far as our district performance, I am very proud of how we’ve performed,”Coach Lee stated. “We have been having a lot more fun and finally feel like we have found our groove.”
